Prayers by Indra - King of Heaven

When Lord Krishna saved the people of Vrindavana by lifting the Govardhana hill, Demi-God Indra, who is the King of Heavens realized that Lord Krishna was the supreme lord, even though he looked like a normal and ordinary human cowherd child. He was ashamed and approached the lord with all humility and asked his forgiveness. Most demigods had puffed up ego's because of their excessive powers and wealth. They always forgot at sometime that the giver of those powers and wealth was the supreme lord. The supreme lord always made them realize that at some point. Being all merciful, he always forgave them their sins and wrong doings. The supreme lord said to King Indra:

"I stopped your worship because I wanted you to realize that I am your eternal master. I am not only your master, I am also the master of all other demi-gods as well. You should always remember that all your material opulence's are due to my mercy. Everyone should remember that I am the supreme lord. I can show anyone my favor or chastise anyone because no one is superior to me. If I find someone overpowered by false pride, in order to show my causeless mercy, I withdraw all his opulence's."  - Written by His Holiness Srila Swami Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada - Krsna - page number 182.

It must be noted that the Vedic religion is no different from other religions. There is no other God other than the one and only Supreme Lord. In the Vedas he is called Lord Krishna. Only Lord Krishna and Lord Vishnu can give eternal salvation. Lord Vishnu is the Protector and he has to take various avatars to protect the people from injustice, called 'Adharma' in Sanskrit. The Supreme Lord Krishna need not come down to do any job at any time. The reason he came down as Lord Krishna once has been explained in detail in the article titled 'Genesis according to the Vedas and other related topics'. It is not necessary to worship other demi-gods and angels. They are all his plenary portions and created by him.

It must be remembered that the supreme lord sometimes removes all opulence's from a rich man in order to make the rich man surrender to him. Some people get carried away by power, some by position and some by wealth and opulence's. When they do that, the supreme lord makes them come to their senses by removing such things. However, it is done not as a punishment but to make them realize their mistakes. Invariably, they get everything back once they surrender to the supreme lord. Surrendering to the supreme lord is known as 'Sharanagathi' in Sanskrit.
